-40°F with occasional injury. Russeted golden yellow. Harvest in October.
Introduced by Francis Dana of Roxbury, Massachusetts in the mid-19th century, and named in honor of C.M. Hovey, author of The Fruits of America. Believed to be a seedling of Seckel. An excellent dessert pear, ideal for fresh eating during the winter months. Best when harvested in October and stored for several weeks before eating; the fruit may then be kept until February.
